The Mormon church revealed March 4 that it plans to put at least some of its multimillion-record family-history archive on the World Wide Web. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints posted a statement on its Web site saying it will conduct a brief beta test of the FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service sometime this month or in April.
The church’s international collection of family history records—the world’s largest—is also made available to the public through a system of 3,200 Family History Centers located around the world. The announcement said “the church believes this service will greatly enhance the way people trace their family history.” A formal announcement with more details is expected by this summer.
