The Cleveland Public Library Board of Trustees has chosen Deputy Director Andrew A. Venable Jr. as its new director.
Venable, a member of the ALA Council, will succeed Marilyn Gell Mason, who announced last year her intention to resign this summer to spend time writing and teaching.
“Andrew Venable has the broad experience in librarianship that is highly desirable. He is a solid professional who also is no stranger to our city, our patrons, their wants, and their needs,” said board President Venerine Branham in announcing the choice.
Venable has previously served as director of the East Cleveland Public Library and the Gary (Ind.) Public Library, in addition to a stint as deputy director of the District of Columbia Public Library.
