Kennedy Presidential Library
Is Awash in Leaks

The National Archives and Records Administration is estimating that it will cost between $6 million and $7 million to repair a series of minor leaks that have sprung up in the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.

Even though none of the leaks threaten the collection, staff have had to place buckets in various parts of the library during a hard rain, the Associated Press reported June 8.

NARA spokesperson Gerald George told reporters that engineers have concluded that it will take several years before the leaks cause any significant damage to the building.

He added that the agency will be seeking at least part of the repair funds from Congress in its FY 2001 budget request.
