Arizona, New Jersey Universities
Close to Library-Sharing Agreement
The University of Phoenix is close to reaching an agreement with New Jersey City University to share its campus library. A for-profit college, the University of Phoenix is eager to close the deal in order to comply with New Jersey regulations that require a traditional library before it opens a center in Roseland.
The Associated Press reported July 22 that Phoenix officials said they planned to file a new application to the state commissioner on higher education by Labor Day. New Jersey City University spokesperson Ellen Wayman-Gordon told AP her institution was indeed negotiating but had not yet signed a contract.
This is the second try for the University of Phoenix, which withdrew an application for a New Jersey charter last year after a barrage of criticism, including being dubbed “McUniversity” and “Drive Thru U” by critics who pointed out its lack of academic basics, such as library books.
