Will Rolling Stone Roll Off
School Library's Shelves?

More than a year after he first voiced his disapproval of Rolling Stone magazine's presence in the Kettle Moraine High School library, school board member Gary Vose has submitted an official request for reconsideration to the district's materials review committee.

At a January 18 board meeting, trustee Jackie Offerman displayed an August 1998 RS cover with a nude model to demonstrate her support of Vose's reconsideration request, which he'd submitted that day. Vose's objection cites RS's November 27, 1997, cover for featuring Saturday Night Live cast members touching themselves and each other suggestively, as well as a March 5, 1998, how-to article on persuading women to have sex.

Offerman also stood behind a recommendation that would give the board the ultimate say on what materials media specialists acquire. “It addresses everybody's concerns as best you can,” she told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel January 19. A vote on the proposed policy is expected in February.
