Ohio Supreme Court Covets State Library SpaceThe State Library of Ohio's space in the Ohio Departments Building in Columbus will become the new home for the state supreme court by 2002—if Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer gets his way. The only problem is that no acceptable site for the library has been chosen, and the court wants the library out by December so the 65-year-old building can be remodeled for the judiciary. State Librarian Michael Lucas told American Libraries that his "first preference would be to stay, because of the overwhelming task of moving a library of more than two-million items and more than 100 staff." If it has to move, however, Lucas will insist on a site in downtown Columbus because the library's primary users are state government employees. The move is still up in the air as the library meets with other state agencies to look for locations and funding. Posted January 11, 1999. |
