Blocked Library Plans Get
Green Light from Governor

Illinois Governor George Ryan signed into law January 26 a bill to allow two McHenry County library building projects to proceed, despite errors in posting official notices about the referenda before the November elections. Ryan said the affected referenda, which also include school and municipal projects in other counties, were "being held hostage by innocent mistakes," according to the January 27 Chicago Tribune.

The new law forgives the mistakes and allows bond sales to proceed so construction can begin on a $7.8-million library in Algonquin and a $2-million library in Harvard.
