Illinois Library Requires Parents
to Accompany Kids at Terminals

The Frankfort (Ill.) Library District board has approved a policy that requires parents to accompany children under age 7 when they use library computer workstations. The library will also require the parents of all patrons under 18 to sign a user's agreement in person before their children can gain Internet access.

"We're leaving the responsibility with the parents," Library Administrator Detlev Pansch told the Chicago Tribune January 25. Internet access can be gained only through a reference librarian, Pansch said. The new policy will go into force this spring, when the building's new addition opens with two or three public-access Internet workstations.
