Top Architects Vie for Seattle DesignSome of the world's top architects have submitted proposals to the Seattle Public Library hoping to be selected to design the new 355,000-square-foot downtown library, slated to open in 2003. Capital Program Director Alex Harris said the 28 proposals received include international firms from Paris, London, Stuttgart, Toronto, and Rotterdam; a number of local firms; and others from Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, and California. A 14-member advisory panel has begun reviewing the submissions. Five finalists will be selected to give presentations May 10. The library board will meet May 18 to consider the panel's recommendations. If an international firm is selected, it will be required to partner with a local firm.
