Grants Seek to SPARC Profileration
of E-Journals
Seeking to offset libraries' spiraling expenses in keeping up with print-based science, technology, and medicine journals, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition announced March 29 that it will offer a total of $500,000 in grants to stimulate the creation of e-journals in science, technology, and medicine.
SPARC's action comes five months after it endorsed the virtual debut of Evolutionary Ecology Research, by University of Arizona biologist Michael Rosenzweig, who stated at the time he had decided to compete with his own increasingly expensive Wolters-Kluwer print publication.
Nonprofits eligible for a the Scientific Communities Initiative grant should send a letter of interest postmarked by May 21 to SCI Project Coordinator, SPARC, 21 Dupont Circle, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20036. Application and criteria details are available from the SPARC Web site.
