Connecticut officials are investigating charges that a Southern Connecticut State University library employee used state funds to purchase books, videos, and T-shirts for her personal use.
“Our investigation is ongoing,” State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal told the April 22 New Haven Register. “We have referred part of it to the chief state’s attorney because we believe certain facts to warrant a criminal investigation.”
University spokesperson Patrick Dilger would not identify the employee, but he told the newspaper that she is on medical leave and has been transferred from the acquisitions department to another area of the library. He said the employee has reimbursed the cost of the materials, all of which were children’s items, valued at $750–$800.
Dilger said no criminal charges had been filed against the employee and the university’s own investigation has not been completed. “When she comes back from her leave, we’ll wrap up our investigation and take whatever action we deem necessary,” he added.
