Kane to Head Prince George's County PLFormer Hawaii State Librarian Bart Kane has been selected as director of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System in Hyattsville, Maryland, effective November 1. He replaces William R. Gordon, who left in January after 23 years in that post when he was chosen executive director of the American Library Association. Kane was the center of a failed outsourcing agreement with Baker & Taylor and allegations of mismanagement that resulted in his dismissal by the state board of education on February 20. Judge Josef B. Brown, president of the library trustees, announced the appointment September 23 and said, "With Mr. Kane's knowledge and experience the library system looks forward to his leadership in taking it into the new millennium and making the system the leading library in the country."
