CSU/Northridge Library to Get New WingsCalifornia State University/Northridge officials held a groundbreaking ceremony September 9 for the final phase of construction stemming from the devastating 1994 Northridge earthquake. Work will begin immediately on a $16.7-million project to rebuild the Oviatt Library wings which, unlike the central structure, proved unrepairable. The New York-based Morse Diesel International construction firm will restore the library's east and west wings to virtually their original appearance by fall 1999. Library Dean Susan Curzon said at the ceremony that the new wings would be an opportunity to rearrange services and departments, and upgrade physical access and fire/life safety to the central building.
