NYPL to Receive $1.75 Million from State Assembly for Technical Upgrade

The New York Public Library has received a $1.75-million commitment from the State Assembly toward the renovation of its landmark Center for the Humanities facility at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street.

The capital funds, allocated through the Community Enhancement Facilities program, will go towards upgrading the building's technical infrastructure. "We are integrating high-speed links throughout this beautiful Beaux Arts building to insure that its 1.2-million users will have direct access to all the extraordinary resources offered by the library in the Center for the Humanities," said Marshall Rose, chair of the board of trustees.

The technical enhancements, which include state-of-the-art public workstations, fiber-optic and copper cabling, and a technology center, are part of the $70-million renovation of the building. A key part of the project, the restoration of the Main Reading Room, is scheduled to be unveiled November 16.
