University of Illinois Dedicates $21-Million Science Library

After more than a decade of planning, the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign broke ground October 9 for a new College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) Library, Information, and Alumni Center at the south end of the ACES campus.

A total of $10.5 million in private donations and an additional $10.5 million in matching funds from the state have been raised for the facility, which will allow consolidation and expansion of ACES library resources.

With five stories and 52,000 square feet, the octagonal building will feature advanced technology, a career center, electronic workstations, and an online search room. An expanded computer support office containing instructional and multimedia laboratories and studios will also be housed in the new library, which is expected to be completed by the year 2000.
