Phillips University Sells Library Collection

After filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on April 1, Phillips University, a 90-year-old private institution run by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Enid, Oklahoma, is selling its 267,133-volume collection and selected equipment and furnishings of the Zollars Memorial Library and the education curriculum lab.

The board of trustees suspended fall semester classes at its July 31 meeting and is negotiating with three real estate firms to market the Phillips campus.

The university filed a motion September 18 to sell the collection to Florida College, a Church of Christ college in Temple Terrace, Florida, after it offered the highest bid of $351,265, according to a university spokesperson. The motion will be heard October 13.
