Gates Grants Go to CanadaThe Gates Library Foundation (GLF) launched a new program October 1 that will bring computers and Internet access to Canadian public libraries. Similar to the U.S. grant process, the initiative will provide public libraries in low-income communities with computer hardware and training. Separately, Microsoft Corporation and Corbis Corporation will donate software. GLF will work with a planning committee composed of library leaders from each province, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories to determine the application process. Public libraries in communities that meet the identified Canadian poverty threshold will be eligible to apply through provincial or territorial library agencies. Canadian grant application guidelines are scheduled to be released in early 1999 and will be available at GLF's Web site. Posted October 5, 1998. |
