Gerald R. Lowell, university librarian and associate vice chancellor at the University of California/San Diego, has been appointed university librarian at the University of California/Berkeley, effective December 1. He replaces Peter Lyman, who stepped down July 1 to return to teaching and research.
In his new post, Lowell will handle $5.5 million in new library funding over the next three years. The campus is building a larger library endowment, with the goal of raising $25 million for library collections, according to the October 20 Contra Costa Times.
