FOLUSA Launches Readers' Choice Awards

Friends of Libraries U.S.A. is holding a nationwide contest to determine library patrons' favorite reads among books published in 1998. Inspired by such popular best-of contests as the Academy Awards and the People's Choice Awards, the Readers' Choice Awards will honor works in seven categories: general fiction, romance fiction, mystery/thriller, science fiction, general nonfiction, autobiography/biography, and self-help.

Libraries can participate by distributing FOLUSA ballots, which are available at the organization's Web site, to their clients and then sending collected entries to FOLUSA by December 15 for tabulation. Patrons, in turn, must return completed ballots to their libraries by December 1. Winning authors and titles will be announced in January 1999 at ALA Midwinter in Philadelphia.
