Seattle PL Gets Operating Fund Increase

Seattle Mayor Paul Schell reaffirmed his commitment May 18 to the Seattle Public Library's multimillion-dollar capital expenditure plan by retaining the library's original operating budget request that faced some trimming earlier in the month. In addition, Schell proposed an increase of $820,000 for the library's 1999 budget, incorporating inflation and cost-of-living adjustments.

City Librarian Deborah Jacobs told American Libraries that Mayor Schell wholeheartedly supports the library and she is confident that the additional funds will remain in the budget until it is finalized in August.
