ACLU Holds "Cyber March" to Oppose Mandatory Filtering

To counter Internet-filtering legislation currently before Congress, the American Civil Liberties Union is holding a "Cyber March Against Censorware" May 11. In the one-day action, free-speech advocates around the country are asked to demonstrate their opposition to mandatory blocking software by sending e-mails and faxes to Congress opposing the Internet School Filtering Act (S. 1619) introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and a companion bill (HR 3177) introduced by Rep. Bob Franks (R-N.J.). The measures would require all libraries and schools that receive universal-service funds to certify that they use filtering software.

Information on the campaign, along with talking points, background on filtering, and a prepared letter on the issue are all available on the ACLU Web site.
