Seattle Public Library Narrows Its OptionsThe Seattle Public Library board voted on February 26 to limit its consideration of sites for a new central building to three, according to the Seattle Times. In addition to its current location downtown, the board will evaluate a site near Pike Place Market and one on the fringe of the business district. Although a popular choice, rebuilding the library at its current spot would require the city to find and pay for temporary space while construction was in progress. The board expects to decide by March 13, as well as offer plans for expansion and renovation of branch libraries to City Council. Posted March 9, 1998. |
