Sacramento PL Gets Hours, BooksProclaiming "Got hours! Got books!", the Sacramento (Calif.) Public Library celebrated February 17 when a property assessment hike approved by voters in November 1996 finally went into effect. The measure doubles the book budget to $1 million and adds 80 hours of service per week among eight branches, reinstitutes Monday hours at all branches, and restores evening hours at many, according to the February 17 Sacramento Bee. Sacramento County libraries, however, are not sharing in the celebration. Although an increased assessment was approved, it did not get the required two-thirds majority. Library advocates are already planning another measure for the November 1998 ballot. |
