Oklahoma Anti-Access Bills Die in CommitteeTwo bills that would have prevented the Oklahoma Department of Libraries from distributing financial aid to public libraries that do not have written policies requiring the segregation of "sexually explicit" materials away from children's access have died in the state legislature. Bill Young, public information officer for the Department of Libraries, reports that neither the Senate Education Committee nor the House County and Municipal Government Committee placed the bills onto their agendas by the February 19 deadline. Therefore the measures are considered "dormant" and can only be revived by a two-thirds majority vote on the floor. An Oklahoma bill that would have eliminated the ALA-accredited MLS as a requirement for the state and assistant state librarian positions, as well as for directors of public libraries in the state, was defeated in committee February 17.
