Oil Money Flows to Dallas PLThe Dallas Public Library has received a $1 million gift from oil baroness Nancy Hamon, which will be used to create and maintain the Nancy and Jake L. Hamon Oil and Gas Resource Center on the fifth floor of the Central Library. Construction of the center is slated to begin in June. "I'm trying to spend his money the way he would like it," Mrs. Hamon told the Dallas Morning News February 24. "My husband was a friend of the library from way, way back." Jake Hamon died in 1985, leaving an estate of some $200 million according to a Forbes magazine estimate. DPL Director Ramiro Salazar plans to refurbish the designated area with new carpeting, furniture, lighting, and computer workstations, and to develop training modules for using the Business and Technology Division, which will house the Hamon center. |
