The National Commission on Libraries and Information Science has named Robert S. Willard its acting executive director. Willard is a current member of the commission, appointed by President Clinton as one of five professional librarians or information specialists for a five-year term, 1994-1999.
NCLIS chair Jeanne Hurley Simon called Willard "an innovative and energetic business leader with high technology, finance, and public relations skills. In addition, he has extensive experience in the fields of information science and libraries." The former vice-president of government relations for Lawyers Cooperative Publishing, Willard was previously director of government marketing for Mead Data Central.
NCLIS acting executive director Jane Williams resigned effective February 13 to take a position at the University of Maryland Library in College Park. At its meeting next month the commission will decide on its next step in making a permanent appointment.
