First Ladies Get a Library

On February 23, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton presided over the cyberlaunch of the new National First Ladies' Library Web site, which debuted a month after its corporeal counterpart opened its doors at the Stark State College of Technology in Canton, Ohio.

The boilerplate Web welcome from founder Mary Regula (wife of U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula) explains that the library was established "to fulfill an informational void that has long frustrated academicians and armchair history buffs alike" and features a bibliography on the Presidential First Ladies compiled by historian Carl Sferrazza Anthony for the library.

Officials have announced plans to digitize records of the collection's 40,000 books, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, and audiovisual materials for Internet access. The physical collection will soon move to the former home of President William McKinley and his wife Ida Saxton McKinley (also located in Canton), where a formal dedication will take place June 8.
