Twenty-three recipients of the 1998 Library Site Technology Grant Program were announced by Minnesota Governor Arne Carlson on May 29. They will receive shares of a $3.5-million fund that is aimed at integrating technology into library operations and improving public access to technology.
Most of the grants went to school libraries' record conversion projects being done in conjunction with regional public library systems. Other conversion projects include two historical society libraries and the state government library members of the Capitol Area Library Consortium.
Other projects focused on upgrades in workstation capacity for improved student and public access, making special collections available through record conversion or other digitization, and improving search access, according to a spokesperson from the Office of Library Development and Services.
