Fired Director Settles Suit Out of Court

Two years after the Findlay-Hancock County (Ohio) Public Library board of trustees voted unanimously not to renew his contract, former director Luren E. Dickinson agreed in May to accept $2,000 in damages from the library. Dickinson had sued the library for $25,000 in 1996, claiming that he was terminated without a valid basis, according to the May 27 Findlay Courier.

In the agreement, the library denied any liability in Dickinson's claim, saying that the payment was intended to "avoid litigation and buy . . . peace." Trustee President Phyllis Barger told the newspaper that Dickinson's contract was not renewed because he failed to "comply with the board's purchasing policies and procedures."
