Renée Olson Named School Library Journal Editor-in-Chief

Renée Olson has been named editor-in-chief of School Library Journal, the New York City-based Cahners Publishing monthly for children's, young adult, and school librarians. Publisher Fred Ciporen made the announcement June 15, to take effect September 1 following the retirement of Lillian Gerhardt. 

Olson has been SLJ news and features editor since joining the staff in 1994. She was head of reference from 1990 to 1994 at the Reading (Mass.) Public Library, while serving as freelance editor of New England Libraries. She also edited Bay State Librarian in 1989–90 and served as an editorial intern at American Libraries in 1994. Her MLS is from the University of Illinois/Champaign-Urbana, and she holds a B.A. in journalism from Indiana University/Bloomington.
