An explosion June 11 at the construction site for Winona (Minn.) State University's new library sent two workers home for the day with temporary hearing loss. The Winona Daily News reported the next day that no damage had been done to the building.
A bomb squad from the Twin Cities area arrived in the afternoon and found that the explosion had been caused by flammable adhesive used to connect underground pipes. Sheehy Construction of St. Paul has been working on the new $20-million library, which is scheduled to open in January 1999.
