Meeting Room Policy Riles Candidate

Mayoral candidate Tom Schellinger has called a city policy on the use of the Brookfield (Wisc.) Public Library's meeting room discriminatory, saying "nine appointees of Mayor Bloomberg" (on the library board) denied him use of the room.

One of Schellinger's opponents in the February 17 primary was erroneously told that he could use the room, but in a letter Director Sonia Bielmeier clarified the library's policy, saying the city historically has not allowed individual candidates to use the room.

In the January 19 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Schellinger vowed that he would "not step foot into the library until [he is] elected mayor and can free the library board from its tyrannical policies."
