Libraries for the Blind Get
"Criminal" Equipment

Libraries for the blind in New Jersey and Pennsylvania will be able to dramatically increase the number of tapes in their collection by the use of equipment seized by federal law authorities.

The Philadelphia Free Library, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and the New Jersey Library for the Blind and Handicapped in Trenton each received a part of approximately $200,000 worth in audio duplicating equipment on December 4.

The equipment was seized when two counterfeiting rings were broken by federal authorities two years ago. It is estimated that the rings were responsible for the sale of about $96 million worth of bootleg music tapes by street vendors and in flea markets in the eastern United States, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
