Bomb Threat E-Mailed to Library

The St. Mary's County (Md.) Public Library's Leonardtown branch received a bomb threat by e-mail on January 7, according to Director Mary Wood. The message, sent to the library's Web site from within the building, claimed a well-hidden bomb would go off unless $50,000 was sent to a "Fire Squad" before January 12.

However, the message was not discovered by library staff until five days after the deadline. Maryland state police conducted a visual search of the building, but found no suspicious packages.

Police have made an arrest in connection with the incident. The individual is also under suspicion for a rash of bomb threats made to local schools in recent months.
