JFK Library Foundation Angry over Auction

Kennedy Library Foundation chair Paul Kirk is challenging the provenance of some 300 JFK artifacts Baltimore collector Robert White plans to sell at a March 18–19 auction in Manhattan.

Last year, the Kennedy family-controlled foundation balked at White's $650,000 asking price for two handwritten diaries describing then-Rep. Kennedy's 1951 visit to Eastern Europe and a love letter from Jacqueline Kennedy. White has agreed not to auction the letter.

The Boston Globe reported January 11 that Kirk is questioning whether Evelyn Lincoln, Kennedy's congressional and White House secretary, had the right to bequeath her JFK treasures to White on her death in 1995.
