Push for Filters Continues in IndianaIndiana State Senator Richard Worman and his supporters have proposed an amended version of legislation aimed at controlling what enters public libraries via the Internet. A bill introduced in January that would withhold state funding from libraries with unfiltered Internet access was weakened by a Senate panel's determination that it might infringe on First Amendment rights or be too costly for many libraries to implement. The new proposal would require each library in Indiana to create its own policy regarding Internet use by patrons. Supporters hope the amended bill "will at least force libraries to examine Internet use by children and consider installing the filtering software," according to a February 2 report in the Indianapolis Star News.
