College Librarian Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

A reference librarian at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene has pled guilty to possession of child pornography and faces up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000. David M. Perrault made the plea in federal court December 8 after prosecutors accused him of downloading hundreds of photos onto the library computer, according to the December 10 Coeur d'Alene Press.

NIC Vice-president of Instruction Jerry Gee told American Libraries that he had discovered the pornography early last year "during some routine maintenance" and determined that Perrault was the source. He reported the discovery to local police who immediately called in the FBI.

Perrault, who graduated from library school in 1994 and began working at the library in August 1996, resigned last March after the discoveries were made. He was scheduled to be sentenced March 1 and has moved to North Carolina pending sentencing.
