L.A. Council Backs Library Bond MeasureThe Los Angeles City Council agreed August 5 to seek voter approval for more than $1 billion in bonds, including a $178.3-million measure to upgrade the city's libraries. The Los Angeles Times reported that the library bond would fund four new branches, plus remodeling and other improvements for most existing branches. Three other bonds would fund improvements to the city's zoo, Exposition Park area, and sidewalks. Mayor Richard Riordan backs the library and zoo proposals but not the others. The four measures will appear separately on the November ballot. Posted August 17, 1998. |
