Delray Beach Director Quits Over ControlDelray Beach (Fla.) Public Library Director Peter Daniels resigned July 31 after a meeting with four members of the library board. "It came down to how the board and the director would relate to each other and who would do what," Board President Harvey Brown told the Palm Beach Post. The board, which expanded last year from nine to 12 members, intends to hire both a fundraiser and a publicist who will go into the neighborhoods and promote library programs. Part of the disagreement centered around who would supervise those positions, the board or the director. Brown also wants to designate a board member to serve as a direct liaison to library staff. Daniels, whose resignation took effect immediately, said, "Delray deserves a better library than they have, and I tried to make that happen." Posted August 10, 1998. |
