Bomb Threat Hoaxed in Wichita

A mailed note arrived August 19 at the Wichita Public Library's main branch, indicating that a bomb was in the building. The Wichita Eagle reported August 20 that about 35 patrons were evacuated at 3 p.m. while police and a bomb-sniffing dog searched unsuccessfully for explosives.

Police were investigating a possible link to another threatening note that forced the evacuation of hundreds of workers in the Joan Finney State Office Building a day earlier. A suspicious white substance was found in the Joan Finney State Office Building, but the FBI determined that it "was not a threat to public safety."
