Amphitheater Eyed as Site for
Costa Mesa Library

A foundation trying to bring a privately funded library to the city of Costa Mesa, California, has suggested using the site of the city's Pacific Amphitheater on the Orange County fairgrounds for the new library.

The Costa Mesa Library Foundation, born earlier this year out of the city's Library Services Committee, has sent a letter to the Orange County Fair Board suggesting that a $20–$30 million state-of-the-art library facility be built on the state-owned property.

Foundation president Kenton White, a former Orange County library administrator, told the Los Angeles Times that much still needs to be done if the library is ever to be built. "If we could find a site for the library, that would be a major step," he said.

The foundation recently held a town hall meeting on the issue of a new library and hopes to raise funds for a consultant to draft a master plan and perform a needs assessment.
