Man Arrested for Mutilating MaterialsOhio University campus police are hopeful that the April 16 arrest they've made at Alden Library will end the razoring of photos of young adults, most of them male and partially clothed, from materials there as well as in 20 other academic libraries in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia over the past three years. Director of Campus Security Ted Jones said that a student worker allegedly caught William A. Cracraft, Jr., 34, of Nitro, West Virginia, slicing something from an OU book. When officers arrived, Cracraft was carrying a razor knife and dozens of cut photos; a subsequent consensual search of his home revealed more razored pictures. As of mid-April Cracraft was charged with one felony count of vandalism. Because authorities believe Cracraft's motives were "sexual in nature," Jones said, prosecutors hope to charge him with possession of child pornography, too—even though the photos came from such innocuous sources as medical texts.
