CD-ROM Gets Kids into Libraries

School children in Maryland will get an interactive tour of libraries this week when every library and public and private school in the state receives a multimedia CD-ROM developed by the Baltimore County Public Library.

Called "Lift Off to the Library," the CD-ROM introduces kids to VIRG (Very Important Robotron Guide) who leads them on a tour through Fictionville and Biographyburg where they read, write, and listen to stories. Interspersed with explanations of the library are games, jokes, and colorful displays so kids can explore and have fun, project director Jeff Lifton explained in an April 16 Baltimore Sun article.

The project was funded with an $89,000 grant from the Maryland State Department of Education's Division of Library Development and Services.
