According to a survey released December 13 by the Prince William County (Va.) Public Library, most adult patrons want unrestricted Internet access on at least some library computers.
The Washington Post reported December 13 that 25% of the 3,000 patrons polled preferred to have full access in adult areas and filtering software in children's areas. Almost 17% wanted completely unrestricted access on all library terminals. Just over 14% called for a password system that would require parental approval for children's access. Only 11% wanted filters on all terminals, and 8% would allow patrons to view only Web sites preapproved by librarians.
The library board hopes to develop an Internet policy by February.
