Librarians’ Classifieds Ad Rates and Information

If you have a business or service geared to the library community, the least expensive way you can reach the over 65,000 members of the American Library Association is by taking out a classified ad in the Librarians’ Classifieds section of American Libraries magazine.

American Libraries, published 10 times a year, sets aside one to two pages each issue for classified advertising from library-related businesses plus non-job related classified ads from libraries. Each issue is mailed about the first of each month with the combined January/February issue mailed out about January 1 and the combined June/July issue mailed out about June 1.

Line ads cost $7.50 per line. Display ad rates and sizes are as follows:

We suggest that all camera-ready advertisements be sent as an Adobe Acrobat/PDF file. When preparing the Adobe Acrobat/PDF file, please use only high-resolution images of 300 dots per inch and to embed all fonts in your PDF file.

There is no ALA institutional member rate for advertisements appearing in Librarians’ Classifieds.

Ads submitted by a means other than e-mail will incur a 10% surcharge. The advertiser is responsible for verifying the accuracy of an ad sent via e-mail and American Libraries will not be responsible for any errors. All e-mail queries should be sent to kbane@ala.org.

There are multiple insertion discounts of 5% for 2-5 insertions and 10% for 6 insertions or more.

The deadline is always the fifth of the month before publication (for example, January 5 for the February issue. The deadline for the combined June/July issue, mailed out around June 1, is May 5.). If the fifth of the month is a weekend or holiday, the deadline is the next business day.

Advertising agencies submitting an advertisement on behalf of a client will receive a 15% commission. This commission will be included on the invoice when it is mailed to the advertising agency. This discount will not be applied when the invoice is sent to the client.

Prepayment is required for advertisers outside the United States and Canada. For advertisers in the United States and Canada, the American Library Association will send an invoice for cost of the ad. For U.S. and Canadian institutions placing an advertisement, a purchase order is not required to publish an ad, but is recommended. Payment terms: Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. If pre-approved, net 30 from invoice date.

For each issue in which an advertisement appears, it will also be posted on the Librarians' Classified webpage at no extra charge for a minimum of 30 days. Advertisements may be posted online only in text-only format on the Librarians’ Classifieds web page at the regular $7.50 per line rate.
