Section Liaison Reports
  1. John David McDonald, AS Section:
    1. Proposals for the “Guide to Writing RFPs in Acquisitions”, “Guide to Change Management of Acquisitions-Related Workflows”, and “Guidelines for Handling Library Orders for In-Print Monographic Publications, 3d Edition” have been approved by ALCTS Pubs.. The committee will keep the authors on track and will contact them to make sure they meet their deadlines.
    2. “Guide to Performance Evaluation of Library Materials Vendors, No. 5” (1988) and “Statistics for Managing Library Acquisitions, No. 6” (1989, ed. Eileen D. Hardy) are to be revised. An author will be found for #5. Eileen Hardy will be contacted to revise #6 or to suggest someone who will do it.
    3. “Guide to Managing Approval Plans, No. 11” (1998, author Susan Flood) and “Guide to Preservation in Acquisitions Processing, No. 8” (1993, author Marsha Hamilton) will be reissued. Thelma will contact the authors.
    4. “Guidelines for Handling Library Orders for Microforms, No. 3” (1977, author Bookdealer-Library Relations Committee) is to be retired. Serials Section Publications Committee will take it over.
    5. Authors of AS Pubs three current projects: Gary Handman's “Guide to Acquiring Audio-Visual Materials” whose proposal is due 6/30/2005 and Nancy J. Gibbs “Guide to Internet Purchasing” also due 6/30/2005 will be contacted to stay on track. An author is needed for “Guide to Collecting, Analyzing and Presenting Acquisitions Data” The committee will try to find one.
    6. AS Pubs will keep an eye on the ALCTS Publishing Goals for 2004–05. Especially #2 and #4. Those are concerned with developing proposals for support staff and reviewing all publications at least 3 years old for revise/reissue/retire decisions. John will take a look at what AS pubs fall into that sphere and bring them to the AS pubs committee's attention.
    7. Proposals for Support Staff - John McDonald will report back from ALCTS Pubs meeting with that committee's progress on the topic.
    8. Revision of the Acquisitions Bibliography. Christophe will spearhead and serve as main editor for the revision and the committee as a group will send him suggestions for revision. John will contact library schools for syllabi that might be useful as well as asking Trisha Davis about her Fundamentals of Acquisitions Course syllabus
    9. Foreign Book Dealers Directory subcommittee report Kay Granskog: The committee is working on data entry for the electronic directory for the Foreign Book Dealers Project. Committee needs to maintain the directory, and might need a permanent position to update it.
  2. Douglas Litts, CMDS Section:
    1. Since the annual conference 2004, the committee has approved and submitted the first three guides in its Sudden Selector series. The three are: Business - authors Robin Bergart and Vivian Lewis; Visual Arts - Kate Cunningham-Hendrix Children's Literature - Susan Golden CMDS Executive Committee and ALCTS Publications have approved the proposals. A deadline for drafts is set for June, 2005.
    2. Between midwinter conference and annual the committee will review past CMDS publications to determine which should be considered for revision.
    3. The committee will begin to consider other appropriate guides for the Sudden Selector series but will wait until receiving the drafts for the initial three to determine if the series template is working in producing valuable guides.
    4. The committee will continue to solicit publication ideas from CMDS members and programs.
  3. Jeanne M. Drewes, PARS Section:
    1. Committee members spoke with all the program chairs for PARS programs and asked them to consider a publication as an outgrowth of their programs.
  4. Robert Alan, Serials Section:
    1. Guidelines for Handling Library Orders for Microforms will be revised by subcommittee of Serials Section Research and Publications. Will also invite PARS to participate in the revision (subsequently received positive response from PARS representative to ALCTS Publications). Publication will be updated and expanded. Proposal will be completed on or about March 1 and then forwarded to Serials Section Executive for approval prior to sending to ALCTS Publications.
    2. Discussed future publication interests including possible series or single publications on notable serialists.
    3. Discussed role of support staff in publication process.

      2. How to manuals or best practices
    4. Met with Acquisitions and Education
      1. Acquisitions: reviewed publication process. Speakers for program on innovations in electronic resources management asked to consider preparing papers for publication
      2. Education: will begin preparing proposal for revision of web publication “Unraveling the Mysteries of Serials” by March 2005. Revision may be completed by June 2005.
  5. Norm Medeiros, CCS Section:
    1. Cataloging of Children's Materials Committee expects the draft manuscript of Cataloging Correctly for Kids, 4th ed. to be ready for review in April. They also expect their proposed web publication, “Resources for Catalogers of Children's Materials,” to be ready for review in June.
    2. CC:DA expects to submit a proposal form sometime in the next few weeks for “Guidelines for Cataloging Microform Sets.” This publication would update the original brochure, published in 1989.
    3. RPC will update its Bibliography this spring, as is standard for us. Essay topics will include FRBR, applying MARC and AACR to electronic resources, and authority control.
    4. RPC will review this spring three of the publications on the “ALCTS List of Publications for Review.” Only one CCS publication remains on this list.
