Publication Policies and Procedures Manual

Introduction

This manual is intended to provide Instruction Section officers, committees and members with policies and procedures for Section documents and publications. With this manual, the Section reaffirms that publications are both important and time-consuming endeavors. Clear guidelines provide consistency in Section documents and facilitate members' creation of documents that reflect the best thinking about instruction.

Overview of Document Types

Type 1 Documents are those that are internal to the work of a committee. These include committee web sites, rosters and working documents. They also include the Section newsletter. Type 1 documents require approval from the Executive Committee liaison. See the manual for details.

Type 2 Documents are those that extend beyond an IS committee, but do not require action from ACRL committees or other ALA units. These include print or electronic articles, conference materials, informational materials, poster sessions, policies, procedures, planning documents and surveys. Type 2 documents require a formal proposal to the Executive Committee, which must approve the documents prior to publication or distribution. See the manual for details.

Type 3 Documents are those that extend beyond an IS committee and require approval from ACRL committees or other ALA units. These documents represent work produced by or data gathered by an IS committee. They include electronic or print articles, brochures, guides, handbooks, policies, standards and surveys. Type 3 documents also require a formal proposal to the Executive Committee, which must approve the work before it proceeds to the appropriate ACRL committee or ALA unit for review. See the manual for details.
