Mentoring Program
Purpose of the Program:
The IS Mentoring Program contributes to the professional development of academic librarians interested in information literacy instruction and improving their teaching skills by pairing librarians experienced in teaching with librarians new to instruction or to the Instruction Section. The program creates a forum for learning opportunities, networking, and the exchange of ideas between paired mentors and mentees.

How the Program is Accomplished:
- All interested members of the Instruction Section are invited to participate.
- The mentoring partnerships are managed through the IS Mentoring Program Committee.
- Mentors and mentees will be matched based on completed web form applications.
- Application deadlines are June 1 (mentoring to begin after ALA Annual) or December 15 (mentoring to begin after ALA Midwinter).
- The partnerships require a one year commitment, with a possible one year renewal.
- Mentors are provided with guidelines on the roles, competencies, and expectations of the IS Mentoring Program.
- Mentor/Mentee support is provided through a resource list for background reading on excellence in mentoring, and also by the IS Mentoring Program Committee.
- Participation in the IS Mentoring Program is virtual; meeting in person is encouraged if both partners are attending a conference.
