Sponsors of Continuing Education Programs for Library Instruction

Purpose: This web site is intended to help instruction librarians, instruction coordinators, and others interested in library instruction in academic libraries to identify programs for continuing education and professional development.

Scope: In Spring 2007, the Professional Education Committee examined the web sites of national, regional, and state library associations and other related groups to identify programs that would be useful for instruction librarians and instruction coordinators. We looked for groups that have workshops, seminars, online courses, discussions, or conference programming related to information literacy, teaching techniques, instructional design, or other areas related to the jobs of instruction librarians and coordinators.

The project includes some Canadian associations and groups, but does not include provincial organizations. International associations are excluded due to the cost of travel. The project focuses on academic librarians, so programming offered by public, school, or special library associations are excluded. Regular courses and continuing education courses offered at library schools are also excluded. To identify opportunities at library schools, please consult ALA's Directory of Accredited Master's Programs in Library and Information Studies.

For additions or corrections, please contact the chair of the Professional Education Committee.
