ACRL’s 13th National Conference is closer than you think. “Sailing into the Future–Charting our Destiny” will be held March 29–April 1, 2007, in Baltimore, Maryland. While there will be plenty going on at the conference to keep you busy, getting to know the host city is always an added benefit. For those of you who enjoy taking in the unique architecture and exploring the collections of libraries, “A luxury of libraries” will fill you in on notable libraries in the Baltimore area.

Strengthening your leadership skills is increasingly important for librarians working in all areas of the library. This month’s Internet Resources column provides good commentary on different facets of leadership and introduces a bevy of online resources touching on topics such as inspiring a vision, challenging the process, and encouraging the heart. Developing leadership skills is no longer just for directors and department heads, and the resources presented here can help anyone learn how to challenge themselves in this area.
Library staff development goes hand in hand with leadership. This issue also includes “The long-term view of library staff development,” which highlights the successful staff development program at the University of Washington Libraries. Find out how the program has been able to keep going strong for more than ten years.
The final, approved version of ACRL’s “Information Literacy Standards for Science and Technology” can be found in this issue. The document was written by the ALA/ACRL/STS Task Force on Information Literacy for Science and Technology and is the product of more than two years of reviewing sources, soliciting reviews, and collaboration among the task force members.
